Elephone S8 DESIGN

The chassis of S8 is made of a glass mix aluminum alloy body, giving the smartphone a weight of 180 grams, and the back is covered with an attractive glossy plastic. The power and volume buttons which are located on the right edge of the phone are both metals. The SIM card tray that is built to accommodate two Nano SIMs is on the left side of the phone, while the single speaker and USB Type-C port are found on the bottom. In order to use your old cans, Elephone has added a USB Type-C to 3.5mm port adapter because there is no 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone comes in Black, Blue, and Red.

The swift fingerprint scanner is hidden under the home button. There are no back or multitasking buttons, but all of these commands are available through the home button. Long press on the S8 home button will open the multitasking app menu, and a single tap on the home button takes users one step back in the UI. However, a double tap on the home button will instantly take you to the main home screen options.

Total score

Elephone S8 might not have the brand recognition that Apple, Samsung and other has on the market, but the value you get for your money is incredible. The big sharp screen is impressive with a reasonable price point, but you will have to make some sacrifices because it lacks some important features like NFC and MicroSD card slot. The camera and the speaker could be better, but if you are looking for a cheap phone with excellent performance and power, then the S8 is a good option, and it is one of the best product from Elephone so far.

Our Video Review of the Elephone S8

Elephone S8 SCREEN

The Elephone S8 screen is the main point of attraction. It comes with a 6-inch, 2560 by 1440-pixel resolution display (with Corning Gorilla Glass Protection), which almost fills the entirety of the S8’s front. Elephone actually replicated the display design of the Xiaomi Mi Mix, though for the most part, it’s almost bezel-free, and at the bottom of the screen there is enough space for the 8-MP selfie camera and the home button.

The viewing angles are excellent, the colors look vibrant, it‘s pin-sharp, and the contrast is excellent. Even with the low price of Elephone S8, it comes with a proper display, and that is remarkable.

The S8 comes with Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS. There is no custom UI to boast about, and the device lacks some essential Android apps like Google Drive, so if you are a fan of Google’s app ecosystem, you need to download the Google Drive on day one. The default home launcher also lacks the Google Now functionality, but the Google Now launcher can be installed from the Google Play Store for free.

The S8 does have a few things to offer when it comes to unique features and apps, such as App Locker which allows users to limit access to some apps through the use of a password. There is also Elephone Service app. DuraSpeed is another unique feature that can boost the phone's performance by checking and controlling any background application activity.

The performance of S8 is incredible, and it has the capacity of switching between apps effortlessly.

The phone performance is actually disappointing when it comes to playing some intense 3D games the S8 doesn’t deliver a smooth experience. 3D mobile gaming is the only area where the phone’s power can be questioned.

The Elephone S8 lacks NFC, and this omission is disappointing.

Elephone S8 STORAGE

The smartphone comes with 64GB of storage with plenty of room for downloads and apps. Unfortunately, the storage can’t be expanded through MicroSD cards, which is a shame given the fact that many Android smartphone makers offer flexible storage expansion via MicroSD cards.

Elephone S8 SPEAKER

The S8’s single speaker produces a lot of distortion at high volumes which is another disappointment. If you want to enjoy listening to music or watching movies on S8, we recommend that you get a pair of headphones.

Elephone S8 CAMERA

Elephone decided not to jump on the dual-camera bandwagon with the S8 but decided to opt for a single back camera. It comes with 8-MP front-facing camera and 21-MP back camera.

The 21-megapixel camera with Sony's IMX lens is designed to produce great images even in low-light situations. The picture quality is decent enough, with proper color replication and minimal compression.

Recording videos can go up to 3840 by 2160 resolution, and the 8-megapixel selfie camera takes average selfies limited to 480p video, and there is no OIS. to take a selfie shot, you have to turn the phone upside down, because the front-facing camera is on the bottom right edge of the handset.

Elephone S8 BATTERY

Elephone added a big battery that can go along with the massive 6-inch screen. The S8 comes with a 4000mAh power battery which is larger than the ones found on other leading devices on the market.

The phone supported Fast-charging, which means recharging the big battery of S8 is not going to be a big task. You need about 90 minutes to fully charge the S8, which is quite okay considering the size of the battery.
