The LG G6 shook the technology market during the announcement of its release in February 2017, even though it was not released to the market for sale until March of the same year. Prior to its launch, it was very much anticipated as in the previous year (2016) LG promised to deliver a smartphone, which would turn out to be perhaps the biggest competition in the phone market. Well, we all know how that turned out - it flopped, resulting to a huge loss to Samsung and even Huawei. The LG G6 is a great improvement compared, because it is unambiguous and possesses a vital non-functional requirement of modularity. The LG G6 proves to be the darling of the South Korean's company, a huge step up from its unsuccessful predecessor the LG G5 in the previous year.

LIKES

  • Big bright screen that allow one-hand use
  • Water-resistant with IP68 rating
  • Dual camera is amazing
  • Beautiful, well-executed design, unlike other LG phones
  • Large RAM and expandable memory

DISLIKES

  • Outdated processor that is well below what the Samsung Galaxy 8 offers
  • Galaxy 8 again. Let’s face it, if you would spend close to $1,000, why not just buy the Galaxy 8?
  • Non-removable battery

Price

The LG G6 has almost the same price as its predecessor the LG G5, from this we can infer the price of the LG G5 is between $500 and $600. The price seems fair given the features that the smartphone is touting.

Conclusion

Total score

8.5

Sadly, with all of these cool features, the audio of the phone is poor compared to its beautiful and clear graphics. We are also quite sceptical about the non removable battery, of course it is good for obvious reasons, however, we don't think being waterproof is a good combination with that.Overall, LG phones seem to be growing rapidly to be a real competition for the Samsung phones with its ever evolving innovative looks, features and technologies . It is therefore one to look forward to in terms of its advancements and one bus we should most definitely get on board with.

Network

The LG G6 supports almost every network technology type including GSM, CDMA, LTE , EDGE and HSPA.

Design

This Android phone has a firm metal frame and a gorilla glass 3 screen protector, and is of the dimension : 148.9 × 71.9 × 7.9 mm, which is about 5.86 × 2.83 × 0.31 inches with a peculiar 18:9 2:1 aspect screen ratio, Dolby vision and QHD+ resolution - a whole new level of clear graphics for our videos and pictures to be seen. The phone is available in astro black, ice platinum and mystic white. It weighs about 163 grams. LG G6 is IP68 rated for dust resistance, it is also water resistant up to 30 minutes and any water level up to 1 meter. The phone can accept a single nano-SIM or a dual standby nano-sim. Finally, the phone has a display size of 5.7 inches ( 18:9 full vision QUad HD+), a resolution of 1440 ×2880 pixels and a wide range of about 16.7 different colours.

Operating System

The LG G6 runs on an Android 7.0 "Nougat" and has RAM of 4 GB, an internal memory storage of 32GB, which can be expanded to as large as 2 TB. The LG G6 uses the company's UX 6.0, which enhances the layout of the applications on the screen, multitasking and improve all the joy that comes with gaming - thank heavens. It also has its very own google assistant incorporated in the phone - now how cool is that? While most android users prefer the vanilla appeal of unmodified pure android, LG does a great job with the UX 6.0 in keeping it buttery smooth without losing functionality. The internal memory is generous and should suffice for most of your multimedia storage needs.

Processor

We should be aware that the LG G6 possesses a Qualcomm snapdragon 821 platform for processing, which my specification geeks will realise was used in Google Pixel. It also has a CPU strength of 2×2.35 GHa Kryo and 2×1.6; GHa Kryo ( Quad core) and a GPU of Adreno 530. This combination is powerful enough to ensure that the G6 will not show any significant lag regardless of whatever app you are trying to run on it. Games also run very smoothly on the LG G6. We tried a few races of Asphalt 8 and the rendering was exactly as we would have hoped for on a flagship device.

Camera

The LG G6 has a LED flash type, a rear facing camera of 13mp (dual lens) that can zoom up to 8 times, the large angle the camera possess - about 125 degrees , makes it easier to take beautiful panoramic images - this means more stunning and iconic pictures for us . The front facing camera is 5Mp with about 100 degrees - this means our selfie game just went all the way up while the camera also allows taking pictures and videos in slow motion.

Battery

The battery of the LG G6 is non removable with a capacity of 3300mAh, with a talk time of 23.6 hours and a standby time of about 17 hours. The phone also supports wireless charging that helps us power up our devices quickly without the hassles of long and tacky wires - unfortunately this can only be done in the United States.

Another cool thing about the phone is the combination of the power button and fingerprint sensor at the bottom of the phone, which makes a soft landing just beneath the index finger .

The LG G6 also contains some added accessibility features such as a T3 hearing aid rating, ability to suspend noise by NXP solution and capable of wireless emergency alerts.
